Women and Youth

Of the over 60 million people who have been infected with HIV in the past 20 years, about half became infected between the ages of 15 and 24. Today, nearly 12 million young people are living with HIV/AIDS. Young women are several times more likely than young men to be infected with HIV. Such statistics underscore the urgent need to address HIV/AIDS among women and youth.

Programs and Services

Women

The Drop-In Center hosts "women only" hours. Since women are seven times more likely to contract HIV through heterosexual contact, special hours are set aside so women can have a little time for themselves. Women can drop-in, recieve hygiene supplies, talk with staff and volunteers, watch a movie, or relax. Needle exchange is provided during this time and of course, safer-sex supplies, including female condoms.

Youth

"Youth hours" at the Drop-In Center are set aside for participants up to 24 years of age. Snacks are provided, movies are shown, and youth have access to hygiene supplies, harm reduction counseling, and case management. Needle exchange is also offered during this time.
