HIV Resource & Drop-in Center

Harm Reduction Center

The HIV Resource Drop-In Center (HIV/DIC) is a satellite location of some of Santa Cruz AIDS Project’s Education and Prevention programs. It is located downtown (412 Front St. - across from the Metro Bus Station) for the convenience of our prevention program participants.

The HIV/DIC houses much of Santa Cruz County Needle Exchange Program (SCCNEP) activities. In addition we host two afternoon shifts where eligible community members can receive free, anonymous HIV (rapid antibody) Testing. We also have Youth Drop-In Hours and Open Drop-In Hours - which provide HIV prevention counseling and safer sex materials.

The HIV/DIC exists to help stop the spread of HIV. We provide HIV prevention services for those who may be at risk for contracting HIV and for those who already have HIV. We provide education, counseling and materials so that individuals can determine whether they are at risk for HIV and if so, how they can lower their risk. The services of the HIV/DIC are free, anonymous and confidential. The atmosphere is friendly and laid-back; visitors can expect to be treated with respect and dignity. Since we recognize that many of our low-income community members may have needs in addition to HIV education and prevention, we strive to network with health and social service agencies to provide useful referrals to our visitors.

To hear a recording of the HIV/DIC services and times, or to reach someone when the center is open, please call 457-1163. If you would like to contact Patrick Stonehouse, Harm Reduction Program Coordinator, call 427-3900 x 307 or email patricks@scapsite.org.
